Who runs Knife Fit

Knife Fit is an independent project operated from Israel. The catalog, the matching rules and the written guides are maintained by the operator, who answers email at knifefit20@gmail.com. It is not a store, not a maker's site and not affiliated with any retailer it compares. The site has no paid placements and earns nothing from the links to stores.

Nothing on the site is the result of hands-on testing. Descriptions are written from each knife's catalog record (steel, handle, length, grind) and from the sources listed under each glossary entry and guide. Where something is a matter of judgment, the text says so.

Where the prices come from, and how a price qualifies

An automated program reads each knife's public product page at every store we compare and records the price and whether the store says it is in stock. Prices in other currencies are converted to US dollars with European Central Bank reference rates, and the rate date is shown beside the prices. A price can change after we read it, and shipping, taxes and import fees are not included, so the store's page is always what counts.

A store's price counts toward a knife's lowest price, price range and price gap only when all three are true:

1. It is the same version. Each listing is compared with the catalog knife on maker, shape, length (within 3mm), steel, handle, finish and series name, and on manufacturer part number or barcode where a store states one. A "Damascus" version is not the plain version of the same knife even from the same maker, and a listing with any doubt is kept out of the comparison until it is settled.
2. The store says it is in stock. If a store's own signals disagree, availability is treated as unknown and the price is not counted.
3. The check is recent. The last successful read was at most 48 hours ago. If a store cannot be read on a given day, its last price stays on the page with its original date, and it drops out of the comparison once it is older than that.

Listings that fail a test are still shown on the knife page under "Other listings", with the reason, so you can see them without them being presented as the knife's price.

Corrections

If a price, a specification or a match between a knife and a store is wrong, email knifefit20@gmail.com with the page address and what is wrong. A wrong match (two versions of a knife compared as one) is corrected first: the listing is removed from the comparison, the correction is recorded in the catalog data, and the page updates with the next build. The date at the bottom of a page changes only when its content does. You can also see our guides and the glossary, each with its sources.

How we rank, with no commissions

We earn no commissions and accept no paid placements. Price lists are sorted cheapest first. The quiz ranks knives only by how well their published specifications (shape, length, steel, care and price) match your answers, plus a craftsmanship tier based on the maker, the steel and how the blade is made. How many stores sell a knife, or which ones, plays no part.

Removal requests (stores, makers, photo owners)

Product photos are shown with a credit and a link to the store they come from, and brand names are used only to identify products. If you own a photo, a trademark or a store and want something removed or corrected, email knifefit20@gmail.com with:

• the page address on Knife Fit;
• what you want removed or corrected (a photo, a product, a price, or your whole store);
• how you're connected to it (for example, you run the store or took the photo).

We acknowledge requests within 3 business days and complete them within 14 days, usually much sooner. A store that asks to be left out is removed from the comparison and our program stops visiting it.

Our price-checking program

It identifies itself as knifefit-price-sync (plus knifefit-link-check for a weekly check that links still work, and knifefit-source-match when we look for a knife in a store's catalog), waits between requests, and reads only public product pages and public product feeds. It never logs in, adds to a cart or places an order. Store owners who want it to slow down or stop can write to knifefit20@gmail.com.
