What to know before you buy
About this knife
- Santoku knives of this 150mm length are small, for detail work and compact boards.
- It has a Japanese-style (wa) handle: a handle without a metal bolster, set into the blade with a hidden tang.
- SPG STRIX is a stainless steel, which resists rust better than carbon steel.
- It is double-bevel (sharpened on both sides), so it works for left- and right-handed cooks.
Limits to know
- Like any hard Japanese blade, keep it off bones, frozen food and glass or stone boards.
Written from this knife's catalog record (steel, handle, length, grind). Knife Fit has not tested it; see how we work.
Good to know for beginners
A santoku is a compact all-rounder with a flatter edge, made for push-cutting vegetables, meat and fish. SPG STRIX is stainless: it resists rust better than carbon steel, which makes it an easy choice for everyday cooking. The Japanese wa handle is light and puts the balance toward the blade.
