- It has a Japanese-style (wa) handle: a handle without a metal bolster, set into the blade with a hidden tang.

Good to know for beginners
A petty is the small knife for the jobs a chef's knife is too big for: peeling, trimming, shallots, herbs and fruit in hand. 150mm is the most versatile petty length. R2/SG2 is stainless, so it shrugs off a wet board. The Japanese wa handle is light and puts the balance toward the blade.
